From Locked Out to Locked Up

NFL lockout day 122 and there has already been about 20 arrests of players and some are multiple offenders. Many owners and analyst dismissed what Ray Lewis said when he said that, “There would be more crime if the NFL Lockout continued to drag on”, and so far his bold vision has been coming true.

Usually around this time there would be OTA’s (Organized Team Activities) and teams would be preparing for or in training camps to prepare the players for the upcoming season. Activities such as those keep players around the team and more importantly, keep them out of trouble. We must also remember that a lot of these players come from rough neighborhoods, so with this new found summer freedom some are choosing to hang around people who mean them no good.

"How many more arrest would there be if there are not any training camps? ..no preseason? ..or God forbid, no season at all?"

Without structure and an unusable Personal Conduct Policy, the players are free to do whatever they please without worrying about being penalized for it. For instance, Hines Ward who is known for being a great person off the field was reportedly arrested for drunk driving June 9th, which is usually around the time the Steelers hold OTA’s. If true, what he did was wrong, but in a normal offseason he wouldn’t be drinking to the point of intoxication if he was in camp because he would be getting his body right for the season.

The players are accountable for their own actions, but since the owners have locked them out of football, (which is the only thing some of the players know) they’re now left with nothing to do, and an idle mind which leads to trouble. So aren’t the NFL owners just as responsible as the players?

New England Patriots’ Darius Butler twitpiced his “new job” during life in the NFL Lockout.
With the days of the NFL lockout adding up, the days until the season starts are dwindling down, the NFL and NFLPA needs to reach an agreement as soon as possible before a superstar player does something that gets him locked up for good. How many more arrest would there be if there are not any training camps? ..no preseason? ..or God forbid, no season at all?
